Days of prayer for the Vincentian Marian Youth

[Province of Warsaw, Poland] Days of prayer were organized for Vincentian Marian Youth (VMY) at the Provincial House in Warsaw (Poland) November 30 to December 2. Seventy-five people took part in it along with those who accompanied them. They were girls and boys from primary, middle and high schools, students and a few people who are already working. This group also included Vincentian Marian Youth from Brest, Belarus. All of them were accompanied by Sisters from various communities of the Provinces who run Marian groups in their area or work with young people in a different way.

The responsible person for the retreat was Sister Elżbieta Piętka, the VMY coordinator in the Province of Warsaw. Masses and conferences were preached by Father Tomasz Dobkowski from the Diocese of Łomża. Karol and Łukasz, the seminarians of the Congregation of the Mission also aided. The theme was to consider the attitude of Mary, who listened to the Word of God: “Here I am … I am listening, considering, going.” During these days young people had the opportunity to listen to the beautiful conferences proclaimed by Father Tomasz. They could also receive the sacrament of reconciliation, participate in Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and the Rosary. There was also work in groups where young people meditated on the scriptures relating to listening to God as Mary did. Later they shared their reflections.

After intense moments of prayer and listening, there were also moments of joy expressed in singing together and presenting interesting and funny scenes. On Saturday afternoon the whole group went out for a long walk around the Old Town.

These beautiful and deep thoughts remained as participants of the retreat entered into the first Sunday of Advent. During the morning Eucharist, 5 young women from Brest were received to the Association of the Vincentian Marian Youth. The whole meeting ended with a delicious lunch after which the participants, full of joy, strengthened by the Word of God and by the encounter with Mary Immaculate, returned to their homes and communities.
