[UN-NGO] A panel discussion on early marriage was held at the UN, followed by the presentation, “too young to marry” with very telling photographs. Many people have taken the various sequences of photographs; I thought it would be a good idea to show them through the site [of the Daughters of Charity]. These situations from another age persist and remain too prevalent in the world. The faces of these young women show their sadness and distress as well as the gravity of the situation better than long texts. They will open us to reflection and prayer.
At the end of the PowerPoint (download here), prepared with the help of Sr. Claire Pfister, there is hope: a group of youth from Ethiopia, girls and boys, organizes dances and events to introduce them to and warn them against the scourge of early marriage. Hopefully these practices will disappear in the coming years.
