Ephata! Break through the gate … Go towards … Encounter

February 21, 2020, Friday, at 5:00 pm, all of us, Sisters from Morocco, gathered at Tetouan “Spanish Hospital” and, in the light of the Holy Spirit, undertook a reflection on our charismatic presence in caring for and serving our poorest brothers and sisters.

Sister Paula reminded us of the need to recall our beginnings and to be grateful for them. The Visitatrix, Sr. Mª del Carmen Polo, the Provincial Director, Juan de la Rosa and the Councilor for Mission Ad-Gentes, Sr. Ana Mª Gutiérrez echoed these sentiments in their words of welcome. Sister Mª del Carmen invited us to ask ourselves: where are we going? She urged us to be in touch with the reality before us and know our human resources in order to be able to discern in the light of the Holy Spirit and to respond with ever-renewed availability.

We then went to prayer and personal reflection before breaking into groups to study and work on the document prepared by the Communities in Morocco during the Inter-assemblies period (year 2018). The dialogue that was sincere, profound, and engaged focused on the need for evaluation and the urgent appeal to be open to new challenges that call for a generous response.

The following day, Saturday, began with Lauds which prepared us to welcome Fr. Manuel Corullón who animated the session with the wealth of his knowledge and experience; he challenged us to work in building the reign of God that would awaken compassion, peace, and transformation. He also urged us to be living witnesses of the dialogue that God wants to establish with each person and to attain the dignity of recognizing ourselves members of the human family.

Sunday, the Lord’s Day, in the light of the formation received and the times of reflection and dialogue, the Sisters met with Sr. Mª del Carmen and Sr. Ana Mª to propose a road map that will help to enlighten the Council decide which path to take, leading us towards where the Spirit impels us to be, where we may feel loved, forgiven and found.

We are grateful to the Tetuan Community for its hospitality and the detailed preparations for the Session as well as to the Sisters of Morocco for their participation and availability; these made it possible to break through the gate … go towards … encounter…

Our fraternal meeting ended with great joy and gratitude to the Lord and we celebrated the Eucharist with the active participation of the older persons of the Spanish Hospital.
