Five Sisters sent to SAFA in the Central African Republic.

[Province of Central Africa]From the very beginning, Saint Vincent and Saint Louise, in response to the needs of their time, sent Daughters of Charity to the relief of those who were poor.” C.12 a

A year ago our Superioress General, Sister Evelyne Franc, made an appeal for missionaries to serve those who are poor wherever Providencesends us.  Then, in 2011, there was an appeal to the Company from the Central African Republic.  The Sœurs de l’Alliance asked congregations for a presence in their mission in SAFA because they found it impossible to continue this mission.

The mission in SAFA was started by a Spiritain priest, Fr. Kandel.  It is part of the Diocese of M’Baiki.  Meetings and fruitful discussions were held and trips were made to the Central African Republic to get to know the mission in SAFA.  After much thought, prayer, dialogue and consultation with our Superioress General, Sister Evelyne Franc and her Council have responded positively by entrusting this mission to our Province of Central Africa in collaboration with the Province of Eritrea.  The Visitatrice, Sister Remedios Lopez, with her Council, asked us to response to this missionary invitation from the Company.  Many Sisters expressed their availability with love to serve those who are poor in this mission.  That is how Sister Bogdana Kavcic, Sister Hiwet Menghisteab, Sister Muberejiki, Sister Gaudence Dusengimana and Sister Senait Tesfaldet Abrha were designated for the mission in SAFA.

On January 23, 2012 the Eritrean Sisters came to learn French and on April 23, 2012.   Once replaced in their service, the three others from the Province of Central Africa came to the Provincial House to meet up with their companions from Eritrea.  Thus the Community of SAFA was formed.  Preparatory formation on various topics was given: Mission of the Redeemer, missionary activity in the light of the modern world, Vincentian charism of prophecy in light of the social doctrine of the Church.  This period of formation closed with an eight day retreat at the end of which the five Sisters were sent to the mission of SAFA, on the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ.  This mission will begin on the 15th of June, the feast of the Sacred Heart and in the Parish of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in SAFA, Central African Republic.

We are grateful to the entire Company and in particular to our superiors who have placed their trust in us and who are attentive to the needs and calls of the Church and of those who are the poorest.

“Go then, dear Sisters, full of confidence in God.” (Saint Vincent, August 26, 1658)
