My name is Sister Hanna Jozefowicz and I am from Poland, the Province of Chelmno-Poznan where I entered the Daughters of Charity 31 years ago.  My vocation was born one day at the Provincial House in Chelmno where, during a spiritual retreat for youth, we visited elderly persons, those who were sick and children with handicapping conditions.  I admired the delicacy and tenderness of the Sisters who were bent over them, like the best of mothers, caring for these suffering people and … I wanted to do the same.

By profession I am a nurse.  For 18 years I worked in hospitals, social service agencies and in homes.  I have never forgotten those with whom I collaborated, the sick whom I served, or the Sisters of my different Communities.  Today, I keep them in my heart and present them to the Virgin Mary in our chapel of “Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal” so that she may support them and keep them in her maternal care, and, for those who have already gone to eternal life, that she may welcome them to the Kingdom of her Son and dry the tears of their earthly sufferings.

In 2006 I was called to the Motherhouse to serve in the General Secretariat.  My mission, in addition to secretarial work per se, is, among others, the accompaniment of the Sisters from the Provinces of Poland when they come for different meeting, sessions and international retreats.  At these times I search in my “little archives” the details to share with them concerning the Vincentian places and the Motherhouse.  I always admire the thirst of the Sisters who desire to know better the development of Saint Vincentand Saint Louise who were so attentive to the will of God, to the Church and to those who are poor.

My vocation as a Daughter of Charity benefits from the Psalms.  They remain in me and, at each moment of my life, they come to mind… “My God, you are great, you are beautiful!”  In the same way a word of St. Paul is my motto; I love it, even if sometimes I do not truly live it:  “Rejoice in the Lord always.  Your kindness should be known to all. The Lord is near.  Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God.” (cf. Ph 4, 4-6)

Thank you, Lord Jesus, for the grace of Faith and of my vocation.  Help me to follow you faithfully!
