[Province of Spain, South] Since Vincent de Paul and Louise of Marillac began the beautiful way of service to the poor persons, the Daughters of Charity have been adapting themselves to the change of the times. Living a wonderful charism they have adapted to the situation of new times and new realities. The fruit of this has been the birth of the new “Provincia España Sur” (Province of Spain, South) that unites the three former Provinces of Granada, Canaries and Seville.
The new Province made its first “steps” at the celebration of the Feast of Saint Louise de Marillac. The “Province España Sur” became a reality in a moving, solemn and familial act with about 500 people (between Daughters and Vincentians) gathered in the Provincial House of Seville. They were “urged by the Holy Spirit“ to be born again for an alive hope” and to be responsible of the company of the future”.
The official acts for the establishment of the new Province took place last Friday morning, Feast of Saint Louise, with the presence of Sister Evelyne Franc, Superioress General, Father Patrick Griffin, Director General and Sister Rosa María Miró, General Counsellor.
Every expression, every word, was full of affection and care, from the welcome words of Sister Evelyne to the presentation of the new seal, official document and patent to Sister María Pilar Rendón, the new Visitatrice (Provincial) of the Province of Spain, South. The Superioress General also introduced the new Councillors: Sisters Clotilde del Pino Domínguez, Francisca Roseales Armas, Magdalena Herrera Barranco, María del Carmen Polo Brazo, María Regina Fons Martin, Cristina Valbuena Recena and Cristina Múgica López.
Father Patrick Griffin introduced the new Provincial Director, Father José María López Maside.
After the acts of protocol and some emotive words by Sister Evelyne to all the Daughters of the new Province, the Eucharist was celebrated, the first that the Province of Spain, South had as a community.
There was also a festive lunch and an afternoon for celebrations where there was time to talk about the new reality, the new challenges and to meet old friends. Nothing would be possible today without the work of all the sisters for the development and growth of the Daughters of Charity.
A new dream is foreseen on the horizon; demanding but challenging. The Province Spain, South is a reality. And now, we have to follow, “making the gospel effective “.
