[Province of St. Louise de Marillac – Asia] St. Louise de Marillac School of Miagao (SLMSM) is the only Catholic school in the Municipality of Miagao and 3 other nearby municipalities in Iloilo, Philippines. It is a Secondary School serving around 820 learners since 1969 when it started as a satellite school of Colegio de San Jose, a DC college situated in Iloilo City, 40 kms from SLMSM.
The School will celebrate 50 years of existence on July 6, 2019, giving praise to God for His mercy and graciousness in allowing SLMSM to serve Him through the formation of the young. However, because the opening of the School Year has been moved from June to the last week of July, the celebration will take place on September 27, 2019. Already, a series of activities leading to the grand thanksgiving have begun.
Last September 27, the 50thyear was launched together with the feast of St. Vincent de Paul. Fifty families who live in poverty situations were invited by the students who prepared bags of groceries for them and offered them lunch. The student-members of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul that is responsible for the feast also visited prisoners and brought food, toiletries and some clothes.
A drawing contest invited learners to compete and put into art the School’s 5 core values: commitment to Vincentian excellence, advocacy for those who are poor, respect for human dignity, care for God’s creation and simplicity. The following works of art won awards:
The launching and the feast were capped with a lively Eucharistic celebration that was celebrated in the historic Miagao Church, just across the street from SLMSM. The School community then went on foot parade, an invitation to those who watched to join SLMSM in thanking God for 50 years of privilege of serving Him through the young, endeavoring to form them to be inner-directed, Christ- entered learners.
