The Community of Sant’Egidio and the House of Santa Luisa, “The School of Peace”

San Salvario 14[San Vincenzo Italia] Torino San Salvario – On the 6th of February 2016, on the eve of the 48th anniversary of the founding of the Community of Sant’Egidio, a new “School of Peace” was opened in Turin in collaboration with the Daughters of Charity of the San Salvario Community.

In Via Nizza 24, at the “Santa Luisa House” for Homeless People, the Volunteers of Sant’Egidio will welcome children considered “at risk” every Saturday morning for after-school activities, entertainment and education.

San Salvario 16The Community of Sant’Egidio writes in its website: “Risks can be different: the risk of deviance, social exclusion, failure and drop-out, the risk of illiteracy, the early removal from, and sometimes abandonment of the family. The fragility of the child’s social and family context very often does not enable him to overcome these risks unharmed. And it’s here that the work of our Schools of Peace fits as a strong and loyal support to the growth of the child … The School of Peace, completely free, qualified as a familiar environment, supports the placement in school for children or teenagers; that helps the family in its task by proposing an educational model open to others … Respect for everyone, especially for those who are in difficulty, is one of the educational values of the Schools of Peace, to communicate to children and teenagers … The Schools of Peace welcome children of different nationalities and ethnic groups, together with Gypsy and Sinti children. “.

San Salvario 17The Santa Luisa house offers comfortable rooms, careful attention and help in services and goods to these children and their animators.

The Daughters of Charity and the Community of Sant’Egidio have always collaborated in Turin. Now, having this common House opens the heart to new dreams, those “dreams” of which our Company and the Community of Sant’Egidio are experts.
