Following the path of Jesus and the example of Saint Vincent de Paul and Saint Louise de Marillac, the Daughters of Charity proclaim the Gospel in serving those who are poor. Since from the very beginning of the Company, it didn’t matter where they were and what their needs were, the Daughters know that “God awaits them in those who suffer” (Constitutions 7 b).
As societies change and develop so too do the needs of their peoples. So, “through their suffering brothers and sisters, through the signs of the times, and through the Church” (Constitutions 11a) the Company discerns the appeals of Christ. They are engaged in social work and a wide range of humanitarian activities. They also work for justice, peace and solidarity. That is why the ministries in which the Daughters of Charity engage are constantly changing and adapting.
