The Daughters of Charity have proudly joined a heartfelt community-driven initiative that reflects their deep commitment to ecology and the nurturing of our environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 100 Million Trees Project, led by the passionate Richard, David, and Tina Mulcahy, aims to plant an astonishing 100 million native Irish trees across the beautiful island of Ireland over the next decade. This meaningful effort is not just about increasing the native tree population; it\u2019s about enriching our biodiversity and contributing to the fight against carbon dioxide emissions, ensuring a healthier planet for future generations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We’re excited to share that on March 19, 2025, we have been embarking on a meaningful project to plant up to 2,500 native Irish trees in mini forests across \u00bc-acre sites in St. Catherines, Dunardagh, Temple Hill, and Blackrock, Co. Dublin, in collaboration with our sponsor, UNIPHAR.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The following is a list of the 2,500 trees planted at this site:Wild Cherry, European Bird Cherry, Blackthorn, Dogrose, Guelder Rose, Crab Apple, Common Alder, Downy Birch, Oak, Hawthorn\/Whitethorn, Scots Pine, Rowan (Mountain Ash), Hazel, Spindle<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Using the innovative Miyawaki method, developed by the compassionate Japanese botanist Professor Akira Miyawaki in the 1970s, we aim to restore and rejuvenate our environment. This technique has shown incredible success in reviving degraded lands, and we are inspired by the 3,000 mini forests that are now thriving around the globe. Together, let’s work towards a greener, healthier future for our community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

By planting trees in close proximity, the Miyawaki method encourages rapid growth and significantly enhances biodiversity, while also creating effective carbon sinks. This approach allows us to make the most of small, often unused plots of land across Ireland, transforming them into lush green spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
