From July 29 to August 1, 2025, the Province of Curitiba hosted the 1st Interprovincial Meeting of Vincentian Social Work. Under the theme \u201cPilgrims of Hope: Faith, Justice, and Human Rights in Action,\u201d<\/em> the event brought together Daughters of Charity and laypeople from the six Brazilian provinces, creating a space for listening, reflection, and commitment to the Vincentian charism and social justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Central Reflections<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Contemporary Transformations in the Church<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Inspired by the Second Vatican Council and the pastoral language of Pope Francis, participants reflected on the mission of a Church that goes forth\u2014one that recognizes the poor as a place of salvation and values the lived experiences of human beings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Socio-Transformative Dimension of Hope<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Vincentian Social Work was reaffirmed as a humanizing presence. Qualified listening and the empowerment of individuals were highlighted as acts of hope and justice, where faith and equality walk hand in hand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Global and Brazilian Context<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Discussions addressed global challenges, including climate change, forced migration, and inequalities exacerbated by the pandemic, as well as national concerns such as legislative setbacks, environmental threats, and the rise in homelessness and food insecurity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Daughters of Charity at the United Nations<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Daughters of Charity participate at the UN through conferences, side events, and educational and awareness initiatives. Sister Michele Loisel, representative of the Daughters of Charity at the United Nations, presented the Company\u2019s international mission, emphasizing its non-partisan political engagement in defense of human dignity. Key actions include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Promoting integral human development<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Empowering vulnerable populations<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Amplifying the voices of the marginalized<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Collaborating with NGOs and religious organizations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Thematic Workshops and Professional Development<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    Five thematic workshops were held during the meeting:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Children and Adolescents:<\/strong> Strengthening bonds and social servicesscusi\u00f3n del Proyecto \u00c9tico-Pol\u00edtico del Servicio Social<\/em><\/strong>, que culmin\u00f3 con la formalizaci\u00f3n de compromisos interprovinciales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Human Rights:<\/strong> The UN and the homeless population<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Health:<\/strong> Constitutional rights and mental health<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Education:<\/strong> Cross-sector challenges and student well-being<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Elderly People:<\/strong> Abandonment, self-care, and support networks<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    In the final plenary session, the content was integrated and deepened through the theme Emotional Intelligence and Social Skills<\/em>, emphasizing the importance of self-awareness and empathy in professional practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The last day was dedicated to discussing the Ethical-Political Project of Social Work, culminating in the formalization of interprovincial commitments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Organizing Committee of the Province of Curitiba, which carried out this first interprovincial meeting with dedication.
