Apr\u00e8s avoir acquis une grande exp\u00e9rience pour les soins aux malades en divers autres h\u00f4pitaux, elle arrive, en 1779 \u00e0 l\u2019H\u00f4pital Saint-Eutrope de Dax.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dans ce nouvel h\u00f4pital, \u00e0 peine achev\u00e9, S\u0153ur Marguerite organise le travail, pr\u00e9voit\u00a0 les am\u00e9nagements n\u00e9cessaires, fait construire la chapelle. Mais surtout, elle porte toute son attention aux malades, aux enfants abandonn\u00e9s. Elle partage avec les six S\u0153urs pr\u00e9sentes joies, peines et fatigues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La R\u00e9volution am\u00e8ne \u00e0 l\u2019h\u00f4pital un nouveau directeur acquis aux id\u00e9es nouvelles, puis un aum\u00f4nier asserment\u00e9. Les S\u0153urs refusent d\u2019assister \u00e0 sa messe. Elles poursuivent, malgr\u00e9 les difficult\u00e9s, leur travail pr\u00e8s des malades et des soldats bless\u00e9s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Comme \u00e0 Angers, le serment de Libert\u00e9-Egalit\u00e9 leur est exig\u00e9. Apr\u00e8s r\u00e9flexion communautaire, elles opposent un net refus \u00e0 cette demande, conscientes des cons\u00e9quences possibles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Les membres du comit\u00e9 r\u00e9volutionnaire qui veulent \u00e9loigner la Sup\u00e9rieure de ses S\u0153urs, cherchent un motif pour l\u2019arr\u00eater. Un faux t\u00e9moignage permet de dire que S\u0153ur Marguerite est une incivique, une fanatique contestant les principes de la r\u00e9volution, qu\u2019elle essaie d\u2019amener les soldats bless\u00e9s\u00a0 \u00e0 d\u00e9serter et \u00e0 rejoindre l\u2019arm\u00e9e royaliste des Vend\u00e9ens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le 24 d\u00e9cembre 1793, veille de No\u00ebl, S\u0153ur Marguerite est arr\u00eat\u00e9e.\u00a0 Dans le silence de sa cellule, elle c\u00e9l\u00e8bre la naissance du Sauveur. Les semaines passent. Des nouvelles arrivent\u00a0: la guillotine a \u00e9t\u00e9 install\u00e9e sur la place Poyanne, non loin de la prison. Cinq S\u0153urs de l\u2019h\u00f4pital ont \u00e9t\u00e9 emprisonn\u00e9es le 19 f\u00e9vrier. S\u0153ur Monique demeure sur place, par injonction des R\u00e9volutionnaires, pour maintenir le service des malades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le 9 avril, S\u0153ur Marguerite Rutan est jug\u00e9e et condamn\u00e9e \u00e0 mort. L\u2019ex\u00e9cution de la sentence est imm\u00e9diate.
