Fiji Mission: A Shared Mission through the Years

01/10/2023

It was in September 1979 when the then Province of the Philippines, responded to the request of the Vincentian Fathers and Brothers, sent on mission 4 Sisters to Natovi, Viti Levu, the Fiji Islands. The Sisters took care of children from rural areas who were sent to a boarding school.

In 1990, a second house was erected in Nausori, a medium-sized town near Suva, the capital city. In August 1993, the General Council in Paris approved the proposed transfer of the Fiji Mission to the Province of Australia. In 2018, four Sisters, this time from the Provinces of North and South India, arrived in the Archdiocese of Suva to continue the mission; it was on 29 June 2018, on the feast of Sts. Peter and Paul, when Sr. Celine QUADROS, Visitatrix of the then Province of Australia, formally handed over the Fiji Mission to Sr. Rose CHIRAYIL, Visitatrix of the Province of South India. Today, our services include: Family Apostolate, faith formation, health ministry, sponsorship for learners, and pastoral work. The Sisters also collaborate with the Catholic Women’s League, an organization under the patronage of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, united in faith and services.
