With great joy, the Church announces the election of the new Pope: American Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost has been elected as the 267th successor of Saint Peter, taking the name Leo XIV. Born in Chicago in 1955 and with significant pastoral experience in Peru, Leo XIV is the first Pope from the current Order of Saint Augustine (OSA) and the first of American origin. His election expresses a strong call to unity, dialogue, and commitment to those most in need, following the legacy of closeness and mercy of Pope Francis.
We lift our prayers for his pontificate, that, guided by the Holy Spirit, he may lead the People of God along paths of faith, hope, and charity. On the eve of the feast of Saint Louise de Marillac, a woman of bold faith and compassionate heart, we also entrust to her intercession the new Pope, that his ministry may reflect the concrete and selfless love she lived among the poor. May the Lord bless him and may Mary, Mother of the Church, always accompany him!
