RAEMH Gathering in Morocco: weaving networks of justice and hope

27/06/2025

From June 23 to 27, 2025, Rabat (Morocco) hosted a multi-country workshop for the Africa-Europe Network for Human Mobility (RAEMH). The event brought together approximately 60 participants from 11 African and European countries to strengthen collaboration in supporting migrants and displaced persons.

In his opening remarks, Archbishop Cristóbal López Romero of Rabat emphasized that migration is a fundamental human right and an invitation to recognize the face of Christ in those who walk without a safe place to rest.

During the week, participants explored key topics like the realities of migration, accompaniment in transit, reception and integration, and the protection of forcibly displaced persons. Special attention was given to migration-related grief and the invisible wounds left along the journey—from the loss of identity to the pain of those who are missing—highlighting the urgent need for a community-based psychosocial response that humanizes the process. The group also worked on building a shared narrative rooted in dignity and resilience, elevating the voices of those who are often left unheard.

Among the participants was the Vincentian presence of a Daughter of Charity from the Caritas Marrakech team. Her participation expressed the Company’s deep commitment to migrants and displaced people. Being close to those who suffer from uprootedness and exclusion is an essential part of our mission, lived out through compassionate presence, active listening, and the defence of each person’s dignity.

This encounter became a space of communion and shared commitment. As Daughters of Charity, as a Church that incarnates in history, we are continually called to be artisans of hope, weaving bonds of fraternity and proclaiming through concrete gestures that every life is to be welcomed with justice, tenderness, and respect.
