One more hand means one less victim

The commitment of the Daughters of Charity against human trafficking in Colombia

In schools, neighbourhoods and educational communities, the Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul in Colombia continue to weave a network of care and prevention in the face of human trafficking. Through the Defenders of Life Network, an initiative founded in 2009, the Daughters of Charity, teachers, and social actors join forces to protect, especially, children and adolescents, who are most vulnerable to new forms of recruitment and exploitation. Recently highlighted by Vatican News, this work is rooted in a clear conviction: every act of prevention is an opportunity to save a life.

The Network develops training programmes adapted to different ages and contexts, combining education, accompaniment and community work. Initiatives such as A Journey in Favour of Life or The Adventures of a Navigator help young people recognise risk situations, strengthen their self-esteem and build a meaningful life project, while diploma courses for teachers and workshops for families enhance early detection and response to situations of violence. In this way, prevention goes beyond information and becomes a shared experience of responsibility and care.

Inspired by the Vincentian charism and their option for the most vulnerable, the Daughters of Charity understand this mission as a constant presence wherever human dignity is threatened. The Defenders of Life Network not only educates and raises awareness, but also builds bonds and a collective conscience, reminding us that the fight against trafficking requires united hands, attentive eyes and committed communities. Because, as the Network affirms, one more hand can mean one less victim.
