Children

Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."

(Mt 19:14)

Sowing love and hope in children's hearts

For St. Louise de Marillac, our foundress, the care of children was one of the most important services of the Daughters of Charity.

Her personal experience taught her how important the presence of love and caring people is in the lives of children, especially those without parents. Children need attention, care and guidance to grow up healthy and happy because what happens to us in childhood affects us for the rest of our lives.

In many places, children no longer have the right to their childhood, because they are very poor or have no parents, they have to work and are often exploited by those who should take care of them. Violence and drugs often enter their lives at a very young age and they often do not have access to other possibilities. For this reason, children have a central place in our service to the poorest of the poor.

We promote the well-being of children in a variety of ways:

  • Nursery and primary schools
  • Child care institutions, collaborating in adoption and facilitating foster families.
  • In nutrition programs to combat malnutrition
  • Parent and family support programs
