Visit of Sister Françoise Petit, Superioress General, to the Province of Mozambique, 13–22 July 2026
The meeting with Sister Françoise Petit, Superioress General, was for all of us, the young Sisters of the Province of Mozambique, a true time of grace, inner renewal and strengthening of our “yes” to God. Her presence among us was a providential gift that rekindled in each heart the ardour of our vocation, the joy of consecration and the desire to serve Christ in the Poor with greater fidelity.
During this meeting, we were encouraged to renew our commitment to authentically live the Vincentian charism. Her words, marked by simplicity and wisdom, touched us deeply and gave us clear guidance for our journey as Daughters of Charity.
The three pillars of our vocation
The Superioress General reminded us that the life of a Daughter of Charity rests on three inseparable pillars: spiritual life, community life and the mission of serving the Poor.
Spiritual life is the source that nourishes our entire self-giving to God. We are called to open our hearts to attentive listening to the Word of God, to seek regular times of prayer and to make use of spiritual direction and accompaniment as means of spiritual growth.
Community life supports our vocation and mission. It is the place where we reaffirm our vocation and learn to love, to forgive and to grow together in a spirit of faith, building strong bonds of fraternity, authenticity and communion.
Service of the Poor is the concrete expression of our consecration. These three dimensions sustain one another and bring joy and unity to our vocation.
Friendship with the Poor: the heart of our mission
One of the strongest calls we received was the invitation to cultivate a true friendship with the Poor. We were reminded that they are not merely the recipients of our charity, but persons in whom we recognise the living presence of Jesus Christ, the reason for our self-giving.
The Poor are not objects of our charity. They are persons whose dignity we must recognise and respect. We are called to serve them with humility and in a spirit of service.
Prayer: the source of fidelity
Sister Françoise Petit insisted on the need for us to be women deeply rooted in prayer. We need solid foundations, authenticity in living our vocation, and joy and faith in our service. Only in this way can we remain faithful and persevering in our response to God.
Community life and transparency
Another aspect that was strongly emphasised was the importance of fraternal life. The community is the place where God forms and sanctifies us. To live this dimension authentically, we are called to cultivate sincere relationships marked by trust, attentive listening and transparency.
The Superioress General encouraged us to open our hearts to our Superiors, to the Sister Servant and to the spiritual director, rather than facing difficulties alone.
Prudence in the use of social media
In a context marked by the challenges of the digital world and the era of artificial intelligence, we were urged to use social media with prudence, balance, maturity and responsibility, and to avoid dangerous websites.
Virtual friendships and the excessive use of these means can become obstacles to our consecrated life and to our fidelity to God, drawing us away from what is essential: serving Christ in the Poor.
A sense of belonging and generosity
The Superioress General awakened in us a renewed sense of belonging to the Company, reminding us that this belonging is expressed through generosity and availability.
A testimony that remains
This meeting became a true experience of spiritual renewal. Beyond the teachings she shared, Sister Françoise confirmed us in our vocation through her presence and attentive listening. We all came away strengthened and renewed in our vocation.
We thank God for this time of grace granted to the Province of Mozambique. May Saint Vincent and Saint Louise intercede for us.
