Women are equal to men in dignity because every person is an image of God. For Jesus, this was obvious; he confronted the religious prohibitions of His time, spoke to women and allowed them to approach Him, touch Him and follow Him.

Women have an important and particular task in building the Kingdom of God. Their characteristics and gifts should be recognized, and their contribution to society should be valued as important.

Women make up 50% of the population. Yet in many cultures and societies, they are undervalued and mistreated. Sometimes, they are the most vulnerable social group. Disciples of Jesus, we are committed to women’s promotion. We work with them to eliminate inequality by:

• sponsoring empowerment projects
• providing safe housing
• offering alternatives to the trap of prostitution
• working with them to promote the role of women
